The Prince of Trentino Wines

Every great wine region has a grape variety capable of expressing its deepest identity.

For Trentino, that grape is Teroldego.

Grown almost exclusively in thePiana Rotaliana, just north of the city of Trento, it is one of Northern Italy’s oldest native grape varieties and the true symbol of Trentino’s winemaking tradition.

The Piana Rotaliana is unlike any other wine-growing area.

Surrounded by the Dolomites and crossed by the Noce River, it was shaped over thousands of years by ancient alluvial deposits and an Alpine climate softened by the air currents flowing through the Adige Valley.

It is here that Teroldego finds its ideal home.

TheTeroldego Rotaliano DOC, officially recognised in 1971, protects wines made exclusively from grapes grown within this small plain, reinforcing a principle that appears throughout Italy’s greatest wine regions: some grape varieties reach their highest expression only in one specific place.

Teroldego is a wine of character.

Deep in colour.

Rich in aroma.

Elegant in structure.

Notes of blackberry, plum, wild berries and violet are accompanied by delicate spice and a vibrant freshness that gives the wine remarkable energy.

It is a wine that combines power with balance.

And perhaps that is its most captivating quality.

THE PIANA ROTALIANA

When a river creates a great terroir

Teroldego would not exist in the same way without the Piana Rotaliana.

For thousands of years, the Noce River has carried gravel, sand and mineral-rich sediments from the surrounding mountains, gradually creating one of Trentino’s most remarkable wine-growing landscapes.

These well-drained soils encourage the vines to develop deep root systems, allowing them to regulate water naturally and ripen slowly and evenly.

Climate plays an equally important role.

The surrounding mountains protect the valley from the coldest Alpine winds, while significant day-to-night temperature differences preserve freshness, aromatic purity and elegance.

It is the combination of geology and climate that transformed this small plain into one of Italy’s most distinctive terroirs.

Because great wines are never created by chance.

They are born when nature finds its perfect balance.

AN ANCIENT GRAPE

The roots of Teroldego

The origin of the nameTeroldegoremains the subject of debate.

Some believe it derives fromTiroler Gold, meaning “Gold of Tyrol.”

Others trace it back to the old local dialect wordteroldeghe, found in historical documents dating back several centuries.

Whatever its true origin, one fact remains certain.

Teroldego has been part of Trentino’s history for generations.

It is one of the very few great Italian native grape varieties that has preserved such an intimate connection with its homeland, surviving centuries of change without ever losing its identity.

Today, it continues to represent the most authentic face of Trentino.

Not because it is the region’s most famous wine.

But because it is the one that tells its story better than any other.
